Tuesday was a training day, and mainly preparation for our first team-only retreat tomorrow for the next day. The most notable thing that happened was that Discipleship teams did not show up to training. Thats because they already got sent off to their respective parishes and schools for the last week of training to get acclimated to the new environment. Many of my closest friends, including Sam Ellis, Juliana Lane, Melanie Lorang, all part of the hammock gang, all left. This left just the Retreat teams left at the NET Center, and honestly it felt… emptier than usual. Hard saying goodbye, but thinking about reuniting in December is always good. The main event from the training day was a team activity, which required communication, cooperation, compromise and leadership. Long story short, it was extremely difficult. Many weaknesses were exposed, but it still left us optimistic because they can be easily fixed. I also got to learn more about the importance of the rosary during dinner with Nels, which was alot of fun and I really enjoyed. Also, apparently were detouring to Rhode Island first before Virginia, which I find interesting, but I guess thats flexibility right? . . Before our retreat, there was a talk given about the Bible and the importance of it. Well, it sounds like any other Bible talk, but the main thing I got out of it was that you can read the Bible like a novel, as long as you read 14 specific books in the Bible, which I find fascinating, and something I want to pursue in the near future. . . Our first retreat by ourselves! It was at St. Mary’s Church in Waverly, MN, about an hour away from St. Paul. They were a rowdy bunch, grades 6-10 youth group, but they wanted to know about God and were very respectful and focused, which made things alot smoother. Although it was only 2.5 hours, it felt just right compared to the other two retreats we had led before. Departure day is quickly approaching, and the more I am using the tools I learned, the more I am anticipating the day.
