Originally I was planning to stay in on this beautiful Monday, but there was so much to do that I couldnt contain myself! My only need was to get a haircut, and since the team was planning to go to the Mall, home of multiple barber shops, among other places, I decided I would come along. We first stopped at the Cathedral of St. Paul, and this place was MASSIVE, not to mention its absolute unending beauty!! It had pews among pews among pews, with multiple confessionals, and statues of each Gospel writer in each corner of the church. Behind the altar stood statues of patron saints of nations, such as St. Patrick, and the dome in the middle left me in awe and wonder. From there, we headed over to Grand Avenue for lunch, a cute street in downtown St. Paul with tons of restaurants and gift shops to explore. I ate at a pizza parlor called Punch Neapolitan Pizza while calling some friends back at home, and it was really solid! Once to team recouped, we left for the Mall of America, where I got my first haircut outside of Washington at a sports barber shop called Final Cut. Joshua, my barber, did me clean, and I was very satisfied. . . At home, the Zeyens had planned to cook us venison and sour cream mashed potatoes. Even though I ended full and happier than Ive ever been after eating a meal, I didnt get a stomachache like the mexican food the other day. After dinner, Angela wanted to show us around her town, as she has lived in Hastings her whole life. She took downtown, where the quiet town stayed silent. Only one shop was open, a game store, but there was alot more than just the streets to explore. Hastings is right on the Mississippi River, so we got to hang out, skip rocks, and take pictures on the Mississippi, something I thought I’d never say. There was a park full of musical instruments, where Jakob learned how to play Reckless Love on the xylophone, and a new bridge that crosses over the river, which lights up in the night so pretty, so glamorous. Before we headed home, a barge boat was floating down the river. Thats when Angela rushed us to the car to head to the Hastings Lock & Dam, so we could all experience a barge going thru a lock! It was a new experience for all except me, as I visited the Panama Canal in January, but it was still absolutely fascinating to watch. We didnt get home till 11:00, but it was so worth every moment of the day.
