Team introductions
During lunch, they announced that during rec time would be the 13th annual Jeanelle Big Hair Fun Run!! Jeanelle Suchy, a staff member whom I like to call NET grandma because she is extremely sweet but stern, has quite the hairdue that is indeed big. In her honor, everyone spikes or raises their hair as they run to about one mile from the middle of camp all the way to the entrance of camp and back. I got to participate despite my lack of hair, but it was alot of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it. . . My last small group with these amazing men was a mix of emotions. We knew it wasnt the end of us, but it was still sad to think we wouldnt be around eachother all the time everyday. I love these brothers, they have watched me and supported me in all my growth. But we celebrated in the only way we could: with Jakob’s guitar and music. The 40 min jam session was so relaxing, so refreshing, and helped me calm everything that was to come. . . If you said you werent anxious, stressed, or worried about team announcements tonight, you were definitely lying. There was always that tension everywhere you went in camp, as they told us in the morning the teams were finalized, but would not announce until 7pm tonight. They even did a hype-up video/song with a rap from two of the staff members that occurred right before dinner. It felt like a tease, but it also helped transfer my nervy energy into excited energy, so I cant complain. . . HERE WE GO!!! Team Announcements, the day Ive been looking forward to since I committed to being a missionary April 1st. Everyone is hyped and ready to hear what team they will be on, and for some where they will be heading for the year. The place roared for anything and everything, and the noise was deafening when we began. They announced team by team, person by person, and for every man or woman called up cheers, claps, and standing ovations erupted. I was jumping around like a crazy man for anyone and everyone I knew. I saw all my close friends get called up, and it felt as if each team was stacked with incredible Gospel talent, making me more nervous about my team. But one specific team, where many of my friends were called up REALLY excited me. Liz recalled me saying how incredible and special this team was compared to the others. Thats when David Rinaldi said, “From the great state of Washington, Mr. Isaiah Morales!” It took me a second to process that I was called up for THIS team!! I was standing a few rows back, but once I got to the front row, I screamed in realization THIS IS MY TEAM!! MY DREAM TEAM!! I began doing the High Knees up to the stage, and hugged my supervisors and my team members in excitement. It was UNREAL!! Team 11, aka the Stranger Things team (after a character in the show named Eleven), has been assembled and ready to roll wherever they want us.
